Question

Explain the following term.

Race Walking

Explain

Solution

Within the athletics sport, race walking, also known as racewalking, is a long-distance discipline. It is distinct from running, even though it is a foot race, since one foot must always appear to be in contact with the ground. The judges of the race carefully consider whether this is upheld during the competition. Common distances for these events, which are usually held on roads or running tracks, range from 3,000 meters (1.9 mi) to 100 kilometres (62.1 mi). The 20-kilometre race walk (for men and women) and the 50-kilometre race walk (for men only) are the two race walking distances that are competed in at the Summer Olympics. Road events are held for both. Up until 2019, these two competitions were part of the biennial World Athletics Championships, which also included a 50 km walk for women.
