Question

Find the distance between the line 4x + 3y + 4 = 0, and a point (7, −3)

Sum

Solution

Given point (x1, y1) = (7, – 3)

Given line 4x + 3y + 4 = 0

Required distance = `(4(7) + 3( - 3) + 4)/sqrt(4^2 + 3^2)`

= `(28 - 9 + 4)/sqrt(16 + 9)`

= `23/5`
