Question

Find the sum of x2 − x + 1, − 5x2 + 2x − 2 and 3x2 − 3x + 1

Sum

Solution

(x2 − x + 1) + (− 5x2 + 2x − 2) + (3x2 − 3x + 1)

= x2 − x + 1 − 5x2 + 2x − 2 + 3x2 − 3x + 1

= x2 + 3x2 − 5x2 + 2x − x − 3x + 1 + 1 − 2

= 4x2 − 5x2 + 2x − 4x + 2 − 2

= − x2 − 2x
