Question
How much electricity is required in coulomb for the oxidation of 1 mol of \[\ce{FeO}\] to \[\ce{Fe2O3}\]?
Solution
The electrode reaction for 1 mol of \[\ce{FeO}\] is given as –
\[\ce{FeO -> 1/2 Fe2O3}\]
i.e., \[\ce{Fe^{2+} -> Fe^{3+} + e^-}\]
∴ Amount of electricity required = 1 F
= 96500 C
