Question

If P = − 12x2 – 10xy + 5y2, Q = 7x2 + 6xy + 2y2, and R = 5x2 + 2xy + 4y2 ; find Q + P

Sum

Solution

P = − 12x2 – 10xy + 5y2
Q = 7x2 + 6xy + 2y2
R = 5x2 + 2xy + 4y2

Q + P = (7x2 + 6xy + 2y2) + (– 12x2 – 10xy + 5y2)

= 7x2 + 6xy + 2y2 – 12x2 – 10xy + 5y2

= 7x – 12x2 + 6xy – 10xy + 2y2 + 5y2

= – 5x2 – 4xy + 7y2
