Question
Solve the following:
5(x – 1) – 2(x + 8) = 0
Solution
Given, 5(x – 1) – 2(x + 8) = 0
⇒ 5x – 5 – 2x – 16 = 0
⇒ 3x – 21 = 0
⇒ 3x = 21 ...[Transposing –21 to RHS]
⇒ `(3x)/3 = 21/3` ...[Dividing both sides by 3]
∴ x = 7
