Question

Solve the following equation using the formula:

x2 + 2x – 6 = 0

Sum

Solution

x2 + 2x – 6 = 0

Here a = 1, b = 2 and c = −6

Then `x = (-b +- sqrt(b^2-4ac))/(2a)`

= `(-(2) +- sqrt((2)^2-4(1)(-6)))/(2(1))`

= `(-2 +- sqrt(28))/2`

= `(-2 +- 2sqrt(7))/2`

= `-1 +- sqrt(7)`
