Question
Solve the following:
`(y - (4 - 3y))/(2y - (3 + 4y)) = 1/5`
Solution
Given, `(y - (4 - 3y))/(2y - (3 + 4y)) = 1/5`
⇒ 5(y – 4 + 3y) = 2y – 3 – 4y ...[By cross-multiplication]
⇒ 5(4y – 4) = – 3 – 2y
⇒ 20y – 20 = – 3 – 2y
⇒ 20y + 2y = 20 – 3 ...[Transposing – 20 to RHS and – 2y to LHS]
⇒ 22y = 17
⇒ `(22y)/22 = 17/22` ...[Dividing both sides by 22]
∴ `y = 17/22`
