Question

The diameter of a right circular cylinder is 12 m and the slant height is 10 m. Find its curved surface area and the total surface area .

Sum

Solution

Diameter of the cylinder = 12 m ⇒ radius = 6 m

Curved surface area = circumference of the base × height

= `2pir xx h`

= `2 xx 22/7 xx 6 xx 10`

= 377.14 m2

Curved Surface area = 377.14 m2

Total surface area = Curved surface area + (2 × base area)

= `2pirh + 2pir^2`

= `2pir(h + r)`

= `2 xx 22/7 xx 6 xx (10 + 6)`

= `2 xx 22/7 xx 6 xx 16`

= `603.42   "m"^2`

Total Surface area = 603.42 m2
