Question
The price of a pair of Nike shoes including sales tax at the rate of 7% is Rs 1,572.90. Find the basic price of the shoes.
Solution
Let the basic price of the shoes be x
Rate of sales tax = 7 %
Therefore, total price of the shoes =
Rs `("x" + ("x" xx 7)/100)`
= Rs `(107 "x")/100`
Total price of the shoes given =Rs 1,572.90
`therefore (107 "x")/100 = "Rs" 1572.90`
⇒ 107 x = Rs1,57290
⇒ x = Rs `157290/107`
⇒ x = Rs1,470
Hence, the basic price of the shoes = Rs 1,470
