Question
What number decreased by 12% of itself gives 1584?
Solution
Let the number be x.
As per the given condition,
x - 12% of x = 1584
⇒ `x - (12)/(100) x xx` = 1584
⇒ `x - (12x)/(100)` = 1584
⇒ `(88x)/(100)` = 1584
⇒ 88x = 158400
⇒ x = 1800
Hence, the number is 1800.
