Question
What number decreased by 18% of itself gives 1599?
Solution
Let the number be x.
Therefore,
`x - (18)/(100) xx x` = 1599
⇒ `(100x - 18x)/(100)` = 1599
⇒ 82x = 1599 x 100
⇒ x = `(1599 xx 100)/(82)`
⇒ x = 1950
Hence, 1950 is the number.
