Question
When two consecutive natural numbers are added, the sum is 31; find the numbers.
Solution
Let first natural number = x
Then second natural number = x + 1
According to the sum,
x + x + 1 = 31
⇒ 2x + 1 = 31
⇒ 2x = 31 - 1 = 30
⇒ x = `30/2 = 15`
∴ First natural number = 15
and second number = 15 + 1 = 16
