Question
Write the following equation in the form ax2 + bx + c= 0, then write the values of a, b, c for the equation.
x2 + 5x = –(3 – x)
Solution
x2 + 5x = –(3 – x)
\[\Rightarrow x^2 + 5x + 3 - x = 0\]
\[ \Rightarrow x^2 + 4x + 3 = 0\]
So, it is of the form ax2 + bx + c = 0 where a = 1, b = 4 and c = 3.
