Question

If α and β are the roots of the equation `3x^2+8x+2=0` then (1/α+1/β)=?

(a)` -3/8`   (b) `2/3`  `(c) -4  (d)4`

Solution

It is given that  α and  β are the roots of the equation `3x^2+8x+2=0`

∴` α+β=-8/3`  and  αβ=`2/3`

`1/α+1/β=(α+β)/(αβ)=(-8/3)/(2/3)=-4`
