Bones:

Bones are the hard, strong parts of our body that make up the skeleton. They are not flexible, meaning they cannot bend easily. Bones are made up of two important parts:

  • Biotic part: bone cells, which are living.
  • Abiotic part: calcium carbonate, calcium phosphate, and other minerals that make the bones hard and strong.
    Calcium helps give strength to the bones.

Types of Bones:

Flat Bones

Flat and thin bones that protect important organs like the brain and heart. Skull, Ribs

Small Bones

Tiny and compact bones that aid movement in areas like hands and feet. Phalanges (Fingers & Toes)

Irregular Bones

Bones with complex shapes that protect organs and assist in movement. Vertebrae (Spine), Facial Bones

Long Bones

Longer than they are wide, supporting body weight and aiding large movements like walking and running. Femur, Humerus (Arms & Legs)
