प्रश्न

Give reasons for the following:

Inflating a balloon seems to violate Boyle's law.

उत्तर

According to Boyle's law, the volume of a given mass of a dry gas is inversely proportional to its pressure at a constant temperature.

According to Boyle's law,

V α `1/"P"`

When a balloon is inflated, the pressure inside the balloon decreases, and according to Boyle's law, the volume of the gas should increase. But this does not happen. On inflation of a balloon along with the reduction of pressure of the air inside the balloon, the volume of air also decreases, violating Boyle's law.
