Question
A man leaves half his property to his wife, one-third to his son, and the remaining to his daughter. If the daughter's share is Rs. 15000, how much money did the man leave? How much money did his wife get?
Solution
Let the amount of property be x.
Daughter' share = `x = (1)/(2)x - (1)/(3)x`
As per the given condition,
`x - (1)/(2)x - (1)/(3)x` = 15000
⇒ `(6x - 3x - 2x)/(6)` = 15000
⇒ `x/(6)` = 15000
⇒ x = 90000
`(1)/(2)x = (90000)/(2)` = 45000
Hence, the amount of property he left was Rs.90000
and the amount his wife got was Rs.45000.
