Question
Evaluate x,y if
`[(3 , -2),(-1 , 4)][(2x),(1)]+2[(-4),(5)] = [(8),(4y)]`
Solution
`[(3 , -2),(-1 , 4)][(2x),(1)]+2[(-4),(5)] = [(8),(4y)]`
`[(3 xx 2x + (-2) xx 1),(-1 xx 2x + 4 xx 1)] + [(-8),(10)] = [(8),(4y)]`
`[(6x - 2),(-2x + 4)] + [(-8),(10)] = [(8),(4y)]`
`[(6x - 2 - 8),(-2x + 4 + 10)] = [(8),(4y)]`
`[(6x - 10),(-2x + 14)] = [(8),(4y)]`
6x - 10 = 8
⇒ 6x = 18, x = 3
-2x + 14 = 4y
⇒ -2 x 3 + 14 = 4y
y = `(14 - 6)/(4)`
= `(8)/(4)` =2
x = 3, y = 2.
