Question

Find the remainder (without divisions) on dividing f(x) by x – 2, where f(x) = 5x2 – 1x + 4

Sum

Solution

Let x – 2 = 0, then x = 2

Substituting value of x in f(x)

f(x) = 5x2 – 7x + 4

⇒ f(2) = 5(2)2 – 7(2) + 4

⇒ f(2) = 20 - 14 + 4 = 10

Hence Reminder = 10.
