Question

Five cards − the ten, jack, queen, king and ace of diamonds, are well-shuffled with their face downwards. One card is then picked up at random.

If the queen is drawn and put a side, what is the probability that the second card picked up is (a) an ace? (b) a queen?

Sum

Solution

Five cards-the ten, jack, queen, king and ace of diamond are well shuffled with their face downwards of cards. One card is drawn at random.

When queen is drawn and left aside.

Hence Total number of cards left is 4

(a) Total number of ace card is 1

We know that PROBABILITY = `"Number of favourable event"/"Total number of event"`

Hence probability that the card taken out is an ace is equal to `1/4`

Total numbers of queen is 0

We know that PROBABILITY = `"Number of favourable event"/"Total number of event"`

Hence probabilities that card taken out is queen =0
