Question

Light of wavelength of 5000 Å produces diffraction pattern of the single slit of width 2.5 μm. What is the maximum order of diffraction possible?

Numerical

Solution

Given: λ = 5000 × 10-10 m, d = 2.5 × 10-6 m, N = ?

d sin θ = N n λ

λ = `"d"/"N"`

N = `"d"/lambda`

`= (2.5 xx 10^-6)/(5000 xx 10^-10)`

`= 2.5/(1/2)`

= 5
