Question

The perimeter of a rectangular plot of land is 80 m and its breadth is 16 m. Find the length and area of the plot.

Solution

As, a perimeter 80m

⇒` 2"(Length+Breath)"=80`

⇒` 2"(Length+16)"=80`

⇒`2xx"Length"+32=80`

⇒`2xx"Length"=80-32`

⇒`"Length"=48/2`

∴ `"Length"=24m`

Now, the area of the plot =`"length" xx "breadth" `

=`24xx16`

=`384m^2`

So, the length of the plot is 24 m and its area is `384. m^2`

Read the following passage:

People of a circular village Dharamkot want to construct a road nearest to it. The road cannot pass through the village. But the people want the road at a shortest distance from the centre of the village. Suppose the road starts from A which is outside the circular village (as shown in the figure) and touch the boundary of the circular village at B such that AB = 20 m.
