Find the area of the region bounded by the straight line 2y = 5x + 7, X-axis and x = 2, x = 5.

The equation of the line is 2y = 5x + 7,

i.e. y = 52x+72


Required area = area of the region ABCDA

= area under the line y = 52x+72 between x = 2 and x = 5

= 25(52x+72)dx

= 5225xdx+72251dx

= 52[x22]25+72[x]25

= 52[252-42]+72[5-2]

= 52×212+212

= 1054+424

= 1474sq units.
