Question
A circus tent is cylindrical to a height of 3 meters and conical above it. If its diameter is 105 m and the slant height of the conical portion is 53 m calculate the length of the canvas which is 5m wide to make the required tent.
Solution
Cylindrical area = 2πrh
= 2 x `22/7 xx 105/2` x 3 m2
and conical area = πrl
= `22/7 xx 105/2 xx 53` m2
Area of canvas = `2 xx 22/7 xx 105/2 xx 3 + 22/7 xx 105/2 xx 53`
= 15 x 11( 2 x 3 + 53)
= 15 x 11 x 59
= 165 x 59 m3
Lenght of canvas = `(165 xx 59)/5` m
= 33 x 59 m
= 1947 m.
