Attempt the following question in 120−150 words:
How did Silas' treatment of Sally Oates affect his life at Raveloe?
Solution
Once when Silas was passing from their house, he finds Sally suffering from Heart-ache. As he is good at heart, he stops makes medicines of herbs and gives it to Sally. Silas Marner showed his humane side by curing Sally Oates. She had been sick and in a lot of pain when he decided to use his knowledge of medicinal plants to provide her some relief. But his benevolent nature quickly turned into irritation when all of Raveloe started to come to him, asking him to help them. He had showed that he was human through an act of kindness and then showed his humanity through irritation, when he turned them all away and refused to help them. Once he maintained a distance from all who came to get cured by him, they all blamed him for their condition and in this way, he became more reclusive towards them.
