`2[(3, 4),(5, x)] + [(1, y),(0, 1)] = [(7, 0),(10, 5)]`
`[(6, 8),(10, 2x)] + [(1, y),(0, 1)] = [(7, 0),(10, 5)]`
⇒ `[(6 + 1, 8 + y),(10 + 0, 2x + 1)]`
= `[(7, 0),(10, 5)]`
Comparing the corresponding elements,
8 + y = 0
then y = –8
2x + 1 = 5
then 2x = 5 – 1 = 4
⇒ x = 2
Hence x = 2, y = –8.
