Question

Solve :
5x + `8/y` = 19

3x - `4/y` = 7

Sum

Solution

5x + `8/y` = 19                         ....(1)

3x - `4/y` = 7                            .....(2)
Multiplying equation (2) by 2, We get,
6x - `8/y` = 14                         ......(3)

Adding (1) and (3), We get,
    5x + `8/y` = 19

+  6x - `8/y` = 14

    11x = 33
        x = 3

Substituting x = 3 in equation (1), We get
5(3) + `8/y` = 19
15 + `8/y` = 19
`8/y` = 19 - 15
y = `8/4`
y = 2
