Question

Voltage applied between cathode and anode of an X-ray tube is 18 kV. Calculate the minimum wavelength of the X-rays produced.

Numerical

Solution

Here, V = 18 k, V = 18000V

We know,
λmin = `(hc)/(eV)`
= `( 6.6 xx 10^-34  xx 3 xx 10^8 )/( 1.6 xx 10^-19 xx 18000 )`

= `( 6.6 xx 3 )/( 1.6 xx 18 ) xx 10^-10`

= 0.688 x 10-10

= 6.88 x 10-11 m
