Question
What number increased by 15% of itself gives 2921?
Solution
Let the number be x.
Therefore,
`x + (15)/(100) xx x` = 291
⇒ `(100x + 15x)/(100)` = 2921
⇒ 115x = 2921 x 100
⇒ x = `(2921 xx 100)/(115)`
⇒ x = 2540
Hence, 2540 is the number.
