Question

Answer the following question:

Find the equation of the line containing the point T(7, 3) and having inclination 90°.

Sum

Solution

Inclination of the line = θ = 90°

∴ slope of the line = tan θ

= tan 90°, which does not exist.

∴ the line is parallel to Y-axis.

∴ its equation is of the type x = a.

If this line is containing the point T (7, 3), the coordinates of this point satisfy this equation.

∴ a = 7

∴ equation of the required line is x = 7.
