Solution

(14x2 + 8xy + 3y2) − (26x2 − 8xy − 17y2)

= 14x2 + 8xy + 3y2 − 26x2 + 8xy + 17y2

= (14x2 − 26x2) + (8xy + 8xy) + (3y2 + 17y2)

= −12x2 + 16xy + 20y2
