Question
An angle is equal to 8 times its complement. Determine its measure.
Solution
It is given that angle = 8 times its complement
Let ‘x’ be measured angle
⇒ angle = 8 complements
⇒ angle = 8(90 - x)° [ ∴ complement = (90 - x)° ]
⇒ x° = 8(90) - 8x°
⇒ 9x° = 720°
⇒ x = `720/9` = 80
∴ The measured angle is 80°
