Question

If the angles (2x −10)° and (x − 5)° are complementary angles, find x.

Solution

Given that,

(2x -10)° and ( x - 5)° are complementary angles.

Let x be the measured angle.

Since the angles are complementary

∴ Their sum will be 90°

⇒ (2x -10) + ( x - 5) = 90°

⇒ 3x -15 = 90

⇒ 3x = 90° +15°

 ⇒ x = `(105°)/3 = (105°)/3` = 35°

⇒ x = 35°
