Light Energy:
Just like heat and electricity, light is a type of energy. It helps us see things and also plays an important role in nature.
- Plants need sunlight to make their own food through a process called photosynthesis. They take in sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide to produce food (glucose) and oxygen.
- The energy from sunlight is absorbed by the plant's leaves and turned into food. This means light energy is changed into chemical energy stored in the food.
- The food made by plants is eaten by both plants and animals (including humans). This food gives energy to grow, move, and do other activities.
- Without sunlight, plants wouldn’t be able to make food, and without food, life on Earth wouldn’t exist. Sunlight is the primary source of energy for almost all living things.
- Light moves in the form of waves, which is why it can travel from the sun to the earth even though space has no air.
