Question

Find the distance of the point A(−2, 3) from the line 12x − 5y − 13 = 0

Sum

Solution

The equation of the line is 12x − 5y − 13 = 0

∴ distance of the point A(− 2, 3) from this line

= `|(12(-2) + (-5)3 - 13)/sqrt((12)^2 + (5)^2)|`

= `|(-24 - 15 - 13)/sqrt(144 + 25)|`

= `52/13`

= 4 units.
