Find the value of constant ‘k’ so that the function f (x) defined as

f(x) = {x2-2x-3x+1x-1kx-1

is continous at x = -1

Solution

Given f (x) is continuous at x = -1

f(-1)=limx-1f(x)

k=limx-1 x2-2x-3x+1

=limx-1(x-3)(x+1)x+1      [x-1x+10]

= -1-3=-4

∴ K = -4
