Question

In a trapezium the parallel sides are 12cm and 8cm. If the distance between them is 6cm, find the area of the trapezium.

Sum

Solution

Area of a Trapezium = `(1)/(2)("a" + "b") xx "h"`,

Where a and b are the lengths of its parallel sides and h the perpendicular distance between them
here, a = 12cm, b = 8cm and h = 6cm
∴ Area of Trapezium

= `(1)/(2)(12 + 8) xx 6`

= `(1)/(2)(20) xx 6`
= 10 x 6
= 60cm2.
