Pre-fertilization in Plant: Megasporogenesis

Megasporangium:

Megasporangium, also known as the ovule in flowering plants, is a structure that produces and contains megaspores, giving rise to female gametophytes, surrounded by integuments and nucellus.

Megasporogenesis:

Megasporogenesis is the process in which a diploid megaspore mother cell within the megasporangium undergoes meiosis to produce four haploid megaspores. Typically, only one of these megaspores survives and develops into the female gametophyte, which plays a crucial role in fertilization.
