Preparations for field visits:
- Preparation applies to both the student and the teacher.
- Quality pre-planning is essential to the success of any field trip.
The following preparations/plans will be made for the field visit:
- Deciding the destination: It is important to arrange the field visit in advance, including choosing the location, mode of transportation, and time frame.
- Deciding the purpose: Students should be informed by their teachers about the aim of the field trip and how it connects to the present course of study. For example, to foster children's interest in space, rockets, the Earth, and life itself and to generate human resources that can support future space development, visit space research organisations like ISRO.
- Collecting/Obtaining Essential documents: Assembling crucial papers such as the map of the area, letters of approval, etc. A letter of authorisation from the factory owner is necessary for factory visits.
- Discuss trip conduct and preparation: Discuss how the trip will be conducted and the preparations that should be made, including the amount of spending money, lunch or a snack, clothing, and other supplies to have on hand.
- Preparing for emergencies: It is critical to ensure our own and others' safety during a field visit. You should follow the teachers' instructions. It would be best if you did not travel alone to unknown and remote locations. It would be best to try understanding the local circumstances by conversing with the locals during your field visit. It would be best not to harm the environment during your visit. Always carry a first-aid kit with you in case of an emergency.
- Preparing questionnaire: Brainstorm how to ask good questions with students, including preparing a list of open-ended observation questions. Recording questions in student field trip journals may be a good idea.
