Multiplying a Monomial by a Binomial:

  • We commonly use distributive law in our calculations.

  • Multiply each term of the binomial by the monomial and add products.

1) (-3x) × (-5y + 2)

= (-3x) × (-5y) + (-3x) × (2)

= 15xy – 6x.

2) 5xy × (y2 + 3)

= (5xy × y2) + (5xy × 3)

= 5xy3 + 15xy.
