The relationship between work and energy

The relationship between work and energy:

  • Work is done when a force is applied to an object and it causes the object to move or change position (displacement). For example, when a boy pushes a toy car and it moves, work is done because the force applied by the boy causes the car to move.
  • Energy is the ability or capacity to do work. The amount of work that can be done depends on how much energy a person or object has. For example, some students can run more rounds than others because they have more energy.

When work is done, energy is used or transformed. In the case of the boy pushing the toy car, his energy is transferred to the car through the force, causing it to move. This is an example of energy being transformed into work.
