Leaf:

Leaves are an essential part of a plant, growing from the nodes of the stem. They are generally thin, flat, and green due to chlorophyll, which helps in photosynthesis.

  • The broad part of the leaf is called the leaf blade or lamina, and the edge is known as the leaf margin.
  • Leaf margins can be entire (smooth), dentate (toothed), or lobed (with deep curves). The tip of the leaf is referred to as the leaf apex, and it can be pointed, rounded, or tapering.
  • Some leaves have a stalk called a petiole that connects the leaf to the stem, while others may not have a petiole. The part of the leaf that attaches to the stem is called the leaf base.
  • Near the leaf base, you may also find small structures called stipules, though they are not present in all plants.
