Zero shadow day:

Zero Shadow Day is the day when the sun is exactly overhead at noon, causing shadows to disappear completely. This phenomenon occurs only in places located between the Tropic of Cancer (23.5° N) and the Tropic of Capricorn (23.5° S).

  • As the Earth tilts on its axis while revolving around the Sun, the Sun appears to move north and south between the two tropics throughout the year.
  • On Zero Shadow Day, the sun reaches exactly overhead at a given location. When this happens, vertical objects cast no shadow at noon because the sunlight falls straight down.
  • This event occurs twice a year at different places between the tropics.
  • The dates of Zero Shadow Day vary for each location within this region, and it typically occurs in the summer months.
