Solution

Let I = 11x(1+x)dx

Put x = tan2t

∴ dx = [2tantddt(tant)]dt

= 2 tan t sec2t·dt

When x = ,tan2t=  t=π2

When x = 1, tan2t=1    t=π4

∴ I = π4π22tantsec2ttan2t(1+tan2t)dt

= π4π22sec2tsec2tdt

= 2π4π21dt=2[t]π4π2

= 2[π2-π4]

= 2[π4]

= π2.
