Nutrition in animals:

Nutrition in animals is the process by which animals obtain the nutrients they need for growth, energy, and various body functions. The food we eat contains important nutrients, but they cannot be used by the body right away. It first needs to be broken down into smaller, soluble forms that can easily mix with the blood and be transported to different parts of the body. The process of nutrition involves several steps.

Steps in nutrition:

  1. Ingestion: Food is taken into the body.
  2. Digestion: Conversion of food into simple, soluble forms.
  3. Absorption: Transfer of soluble food to the blood.
  4. Assimilation: Utilisation of absorbed food by cells and tissues for energy production, growth, and repair.
  5. Egestion: Removal of waste products and undigested food from the body.
