Cell Theory:

1838, 1839

The cell theory, that all the plants and animals are composed of cells and that the cell is the basic unit of life, was presented by two biologists, Schleiden (1838) and Schwann (1839).

The third doctrine of Schwann and Schleiden was proven wrong by Rudolf Virchow. In this year, he formally enunciated in his powerful dictum that, “Omnis cellula e cellula“, which is translated as “All cells only arise from pre-existing cells“.
